THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief minister Oommen Chandy is under pressure to resign following an expose on his meeting with a Pathanamthitta-based businessman Sreedharan Nair and Saritha S Nair who has been arrested in the controversial solar panel scam, at his office in the government secretariat. The chief minister is having late night talks with his cabinet colleagues to take a final decision on his resignation.
He has also decided to convene an emergency cabinet meeting on Tuesday morning ahead of the Assembly session to take a final decision. Sources close to the chief minister said that he has expressed his willingness to step down since he has been put on a bad light. However, the Congress leaders have urged him not take a decision in haste. The chief minister has said in the Assembly on Monday that he had met the businessman Sreedharan Nair for a discussion on the issues concerning the crusher units in Patahanamthitta.
However, this was denied by Sreedharan nair and said that he had gone to visit to assure him that he was going to invest Rs 40 lakh in the solar project mooted by Saritha. Chandy's cabinet colleagues, KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala and other Congress leaders have reached the official residence of the chief minister at the filing of this report and are having discussions on how to handle the issue. The chief minister is under pressure since the Assembly session is going on. Sources said that Chandy has also decided to convene the meeting of the Congress legislature party meeting to win the confidence of the Congress MLAs.
KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala said after the talks that it was conspiracy against the chief minister and there was no question of resignation of the chief minister. The UDF will stand united behind the chief minister and all the controversies are a creation of the LDF.
